The biggest difference showed up in how each handles immersion. CrushOn leans into that free-form, almost Janitor-like feel where the chat can go anywhere, while Candy AI keeps characters more consistent and throws in sharper visual feedback during longer scenes.

Candy AI and CrushOn AI are both built around AI character conversations, but they don’t quite approach roleplay in the same way. Candy AI leans more heavily into the companion side of the experience, with character interaction backed by generated images and other visual content. CrushOn AI is more focused on open-ended character roleplay, where the conversation itself is the main event.

That difference matters if you’re judging them specifically on roleplay realism. A character can look convincing and still feel flat in conversation, just as a bot can write good scenes without necessarily feeling like a believable companion.

That’s what I’m comparing here: not which app has the longest feature list, but which one actually makes a roleplay character feel consistent, responsive, and believable once the conversation gets going.

My real testing experience

Candy AI and CrushOn AI sit on opposite ends of the AI companion spectrum. Candy is the polished mainstream leader—best-in-class realistic images (V2 engine), excellent long-term memory and character consistency, unique branching Story Mode episodes, natural real-time voice, and 120-second Live Action videos. It excels at emotional connection and tasteful NSFW but stays more romance-first than hardcore.

CrushOn leans harder into open NSFW text chat. Once past the early coy replies it handles graphic roleplay, dirty talk, and tagged darker kinks (CNC, step themes, etc.) with fewer filters. It offers a large community character pool and a usable free tier (100 messages), but memory drifts on minor details after 30–40 messages, images burn credits quickly, and voice feels more robotic.

Candy holds the character’s look extremely well, but conversational memory thins out faster in longer roleplay. Smaller details often need reminding after a longer stretch.

CrushOn keeps more of the story thread in pure text roleplay, especially on paid tiers. It still isn’t perfect for multi-week arcs, but it drops fewer plot points mid-scene than Candy.

Personality

Candy characters start with a clear vibe and stay consistent in shorter scenes. Over longer roleplay the personality can soften.

CrushOn gives more variety through its large character library and model options. Well-made characters hold their distinct voice better across a full session.

Candy feels lively and immersive in the first part of a scene, especially when images or short clips are involved. Continuity slips once the roleplay stretches.

CrushOn is stronger for pure text immersion and longer back-and-forth. Group chat and model switching also give it an edge for more complex or multi-character roleplay.

NSFW

Both handle explicit content without constant interruptions.
Candy feels more open when visuals are part of the scene. CrushOn is more consistent on the text side and less likely to lose the thread during longer explicit roleplay.

Voice / Audio

Candy offers voice messages and calls. Quality is usable but not class-leading and it burns tokens.
CrushOn’s voice features are more limited. Most users treat it as a text-first platform.

Reliability

Both stayed stable during testing. Reply speed was fine on both. Neither had major crashes or deal-breaking downtime.

Visuals / image & video generation

Candy is clearly stronger. Image consistency is high and the short Live Action clips add something most competitors (including CrushOn) don’t match.
CrushOn has basic image options but they are not a main strength.

Customization

Candy makes it quick to create a good-looking character with solid visual and personality options.

Visuals are the clear weak spot. Image quality and consistency lag behind Candy, and the platform feels much more text-focused. Some users also find the free tier burns out quickly, and the overall experience can feel less polished if you’re used to more finished companion apps.

CrushOn AI is cheaper at the entry level. The Standard plan sits around $5–$6 a month, with higher tiers going up from there. It works more on message credits than tokens, and the free tier gives you a decent number of daily messages to test with.

Quick take:
CrushOn is easier on the wallet if you mainly want text roleplay. Candy can end up costing more once you start generating a lot of images and short videos.
